For a while, it seemed like everything might be back to normal soon. Sure, maybe kids wouldn’t be able to go back to school this year, but after sheltering at home for a couple of months, we’d be restarting our lives just in time for summer break. It has become increasingly clear, though, that restarting our lives may take a lot longer than we thought, and this summer is not going to be anything close to normal for many families.
With the school year ending soon, plenty of parents will be relieved not to face the daily stress of managing remote learning. But with most camps cancelled, pools and parks restricted, friends socially distant, and everyone still stuck at home, they’ll face new challenges. If kids don’t have something good to do, it’ll be a long summer for everyone. Families need help.
So this year, we’re trying something new. We’re calling it Camp Kinda.
Camp Kinda is a free, at-home summer experience designed to keep kids engaged, asking questions, and having fun even while they’re stuck at home. It’s like summer camp—kinda. Each weekday from June 1 to September 1, participating families will get 3-4 hours’ worth of daily activities, all connected to a weekly theme and curated by experts with a passion for their topic.
It’s not like homework or summer school. On any given day, kids may be exploring the art of graphic novels, unlocking the mysteries of history, or jumping into the world’s craziest sports. With a mix of online and offline activities, Camp Kinda is flexible enough to let you pick and choose what you put in front of your kids (and when), but kid-driven enough to let you step away and get things done.
No, it’s not the same as a traditional summer camp. Even so, we hope it makes the summer a little less stressful for everyone in your family. In keeping with our approach of partnering with employers to offer our educational support services to their employees, we’ll be teaming up with employers and other organizations nationwide—from universities and school systems to major retailers and hotel chains—to offer Camp Kinda for free to as many families as need and want it.
We hope you’ll sign up, too. Visit CampKinda.org to learn more and use registration code KINDA2020 to get started for free. You’ll get weekly emails from us laying out each week’s adventures, plus tips for parents, suggested family activities, and regular reminders. Share the news with everyone you know. And don’t wait—Camp Kinda starts June 1!
